WESLEYAN METHODIST TRAINING COLLEGE (WMTC)

Our History

Wesleyan Methodist Training College (wmtc) is an initiative of the leadership of Nairobi district in Kenya-Ethiopia Annual Conference. The idea to have the college was based on the vision of having pastors and the lay leadership trained in ministry service and management of the church.

Hither to, the previous assessment of Dr. Ken Yamada led (GBHEM) delegation in 2008 to Nairobi on the viability to initiate a network of United Methodist related Institutions of Higher education in Africa, connected through Distance Learning in East Africa. It was recommended to establish a United Methodist Distance Education Centre in Kenya and Uganda.

Thus, a resolution was reached during the 26th session in August 24th -27th 2016 at the former East Africa Annual Conference held at United Methodist Busia District; at Nangina Catholic pastoral mission center.

The Nairobi district leadership upheld the Bishops call to initiate a theological/ higher education institution in Kenya before dissolving into various four annual conferences that were created by the 13th Session of the Africa Central Conference session held in Luanda, Angola, August 10-14, 2016.

As a result, it is out of these calls, that, the Nairobi District leadership led by United Methodist’s Men’s department affirmed the initiative to establish a United Methodist College on July 30th, 2017. This was ratified during her 5th session of the District Conference meeting held at Kayole St John’s UMC, October 28th, 2017 to start the Wesleyan United Methodist Training College.

The church is yet to strengthen her structures and develop more leadership as well as grounding her pastors into Wesleyan studies and doctrines. Therefore, the establishment of Wesleyan United Methodist Training college comes handy as part of the solution to the above needs assessments to have pastors and the lay leadership trained in ministry service of the society and management of the church.

Therefore, in August 2017 a Board of Management was constituted and the college was registered on 28th, August, 2017.The board of management is a representative group of the laity and clergy. They are in charge of planning, coordination and management of the college.

Starting October 2017 and continuing through February 2018,

the Board members held meetings a couple of times to develop the vision, mission, faith statement, goals, objectives, course modules and financial development
